Student Government Association: Welcome

DESCRIPTION

In 2020 I became the Director of Administrative Affairs for the Student Government Association. The Student Government Association is an organization run by student monarchs dedicating their voices to advocating for the student body of Old Dominion University. In this capacity, I oversaw the Academic and Organizational Committee. I had the pleasure of working with several distinguished individuals, both staff and student body, who devoted themselves to protecting the Monarch community while navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. Together we worked on innovative ideas for the Monarch community to stay safe while still partaking in in-person classes and campus involvement. As the Director of Administrative Affairs, I had the distinct pleasure of overseeing a committee of young individuals who assisted with campus involvement and advocating for the student body.

SKILLS AND VALUES OBTAINED

As the Director of Administrative Affairs, I was able to learn the fundamentals of professionalism as I practiced this on a daily basis. Communicating between faculty, staff, and students daily is a major part of this position and with that, I had to ensure I remained professional, respectful, and positive at all times. I learned how to effectively work as a team to accomplish the ultimate goal of advocating for the student body.

EVIDENCE

Below are artifacts from my experience as Director of Administrative Affairs for the Student Government Association

TESTING MATERIAL

It was our mission to provide free testing material for students year-round. We were able to designate four locations to pick up these materials.

SUBMISSION FORM NOTICE

It is important to notify the student body of any information that may concern them and student organizations. Below is a copy of that notice.

TRANSITION PACKET

As my time as Director is limited to one year, I felt as if it was important to leave a detailed guide for my successor.

ADMINISTRATIVE CODE

The Administrative Code is an official document of the Student Government Association written by the Director of Administrative Affairs. This document, accompanied by the points and standards document, is developed to assist student organizations on how to formally request a budget for the following year.

POINTS AND STANDARDS

Full-recognized organizations have requirements to meet in order to fully receive their requested budget. These requirements are set by the Director of Administrative Affairs and are the same for every organization.

ORGANIZATION APPROVAL MEETING

The Administrative Affairs Committee is responsible for interviewing all organizations aspiring to become recognized. In this interview, it was required to hear the organization's purpose, mission, and goals, as well as share important information for becoming a full-recognized organization.
