STUDENT LIAISON

Making A Difference

At the beginning of this school year, I volunteered to become the student liaison at Churchland Middle School. This position oversaw the student body while advocating for relevant education and experience. In this position, I served as an idealist as well as an activist; therefore it was imperative that I remained innovative and attuned to the vision of the school. Overall, I served as a bridge between students, staff, and administration.

SKILLS AND VALUES

Something I enjoyed in this position was the development of meaningful relationships with students. Often times I found students gravitating toward me in the building. I am proud of this as it gave me the opportunity to give students someone to bestow their trust with. Students could discuss any issues they were having in school and trust me to help them find a solution.

While working in the building I have had the distinct pleasure of co-planning a pep rally for the entire school. The students deserved to be awarded for their fantastic behavior at the beginning of the school year. Therefore, we decided to give them a fun experience. This event took strategic planning as well as an exceptional partnership as there were over 800 students in the gymnasium at one time. Together we worked as a team to ensure the students were both safe and were able to have an amazing time.

Assistant Principal

"I have had the wonderful experience of working with Mr. Ivan Santiago, as our school’s student liaison, for the past several months. As a student liaison, Ivan's job is to serve as a bridge between our students, staff, and administration. He often speaks on our students' behalf when they find themselves in difficult situations, and helps them navigate challenges effectively. Ivan is excellent in his role. He builds meaningful relationships with all stakeholders including students, teachers, parents, and administration. I am especially impressed by Ivan's uncanny ability to be calm amidst any storm. Even in the most difficult situations, where most people would be distraught and frazzled, Ivan is able to maintain a clear, steady temperament which ultimately helps to find solutions that work toward success. Ivan is very personable dependable and extremely mature. He was able to enter the public school setting and complete tasks that would give even the most seasoned administrators difficulty. His leadership skills are clearly evident in his ability to think outside of the box and find solutions to any problem that is presented before him."
